The pre-production CC8S was presented at the Paris Auto Show in 2000 and the audience was thrilled by the performance, features, design and awards won.
From 2002 to 2003 Koenigsegg® manufactured 6 units (4xLHD and 2xRHD) of the first company’s production model CC8S after about 7-8 years of research and development.
Financials and resulting resources were limited but Koenigsegg Automotive AB developed many parts of the powerful rear mid-engine targa sports car themselves, like the chassis which is made out of pre-impregnated carbon fibre/Kevlar™as well as the semi-monocoque which is attached to the chassis‘ rear aluminium subframe and to the chassis‘ front steel subframe.
All body parts and panels are made from the same carbon fibre/Kevlar™, reducing weight as much as possible.
The cross-drilled brakes for better ventilation are in-house-developments, which are power-assisted by a Koenigsegg® Advanced Control System™.
Also, the suspensions are developed by Koenigsegg® in order to achieve best possible results for the handling characteristics at that time. Venturi tunnels also on the bottom side of the CC8S, its diffusers and the Koenigsegg® Rear Spoiler™ support the increase of downforce, which is needed to ensure the best powertrain of the supercharged 4.6-liter-DOHC-V8-engine.
The powerful Ford® modular engine weighs only 210 kg – 463 lb because of its aluminium cast and produces 665 hp at 6800 rpm. A 6-speed manual transmission was developed by CIMA® especially for the CC8S. The patented free-flowing exhaust system is based on the „Rocket Cat Principle“.
Magnesium alloy wheels with a centre locking system with 18-inch front and 20-inch rear rims with Michelin® Pilot Sport 2 tyres were mounted and allowing a top speed of the CC8S at 390 km/h – 240 mph and an acceleration 0-100 km/h – 0-62 mph under 3.5 seconds. Standing ¼ Mile – 402 meters in 10 seconds with a speed at 217 km/h – 135mph. A braking distance of 32 meters – 105 ft at 100-0 km/h or 62-0 mph.
CC8S won the Guinness World Record for the most powerful production engine.
Next to outstanding performance CC8S has other unique functions like a targa roof which can be stowed underneath the front hood and the vertical opening dihydral-synchro-helix Koenigsegg® doors™.
The CC8S design was awarded from Utmärkt Svensk and Red Dot® in Germany.
